Why test cosmetics on animals when we have so many criminals in prisons?

I have 12 days to write balanced essay on this topic: "Why test cosmetics and drugs on animals when we have so many criminals in prisons?". I've never thought about testing cosmetics in this way. I heard a lot about testing things on animals and I am strongly against it, but what about prisoners? Of course they have human rights but what if they didn't respect the rights of another person? For example murderers or rapists. Why innocent animlas have to suffer? What do you think about it?

For me it's not good idea. Maybe prisoners commited lots of different crimes but we can't do such things. Maybe thay are prisoners who regret and want to correct their mistakes. And (I know that today it's almost imposible) maybe they are punished who were sent to prison by mistake.

I have to include in my essay some quotations and one of them is "people forget that these test producers don't kill the subjects- all the may get is slight skin irritation or allergic reaction" so if it's true I think that cosmetics should be tested on prisoners. The second quotation is "animals are comfortable the way they are, they don't want or need to improve their looks with cosmetics- if we want to experiment, we should keep it within our own species" and I totally agree with it. Animals are innocent, we shouldn't use it to these test. Everything has its advantages and disadvantages so even if I think that this is good idea, I cannot disagree with you.
