Varieties of English language.

I promised that I will write something about varieties of American English and British English. This topic can be helpful for everybody who wants to know more about English. There are many English dialects in the world but these two are the most popular and useful(przydatny).
First of all,the reason of these differences is Noah Webster. He was an American spelling reformer. He published 'Webster's American Dictionary of the English Language'.Noah claimed(twierdził) that Amerians should speak in streamlined(uproszczony) English. For example: not 'night' with terrible GH but 'nite' with simple T .
However,it is important to know that a quarter of the world`s population speaks English! In English there are 800,000 words ! And do you know how many languages have more words than English? It will be your riddle (zagadka).I`ll give you an answer tomorrow :)
And now,I should return to the topic :D I will give a list of different words use in UK and in the USA :
American English: British English:
bill - banknote
bureau - chest of drawers
can - tin (puszka)
candy - sweets
cookie - biscuit(ciasteczko)
drugstore - chemist's shop
French fries - chips
garbage/trash - rubbish (śmieci)
gas - petrol(benzyna)
mail - post
movie - film
period - full stop(kropka)
rest room - toilet
second floor - first floor
sidewalk - pavement(chodnik)
trunk - car boot (bagażnik)
You should also remember that a flat tyre (przebita opona) in the USA is not an English apartment (mieszkanie) and American sneakers (ppl who sneak around-skradają się) are not an British trainers. :)
Oh,at last.Maybe this labour(trud, wysiłek) will stand you in good stead (przyda się komuś).
And now ,bye :) Tomorrow I will solve the riddle but I think that you can solve it before :)
