Check out your knowledge about the correct pronunciation of plural s endings.
NOTES:
1.When a noun ends in a sound of unvoiced consonant (spółgłoska bezdzwięczna) like /p t k f θ/ the plural ending is pronounced as /s/
a. /p/ - cups
b. /t/ - hats
c. /k/ - cooks
d /f/ - cliffs
e. /θ/ - myths
Note that the rule is about sounds not letters!
we say /s/ at the and of nouns like laughs -->/f/
2. When a noun ends in a sound of voiced consonant (spółgłoska dżwieczna)or a vovel(samogłoska)the plural ending is pronounced as
/z/
a. /b/ - crabs
b. /d/ - cards
c. /g/ - rugs
d. /v/ - gloves
e. /m/ - plums
f. /n/ - fans
g. /η/ - kings
h. /l/ - deals
i. /r/ - tears
j. /ð/ - clothes
3. When the verb ends in /s z ∫ s∫ d3 3/, the third person singular ending is pronounced
/Iz/. With these s-type sounds, the /Iz/ is needed for the ending to be heard.
a. /s/ - races, boxes
b. /z/ - pauses
c. /∫/ - dishes
d. /3/ - garages
e. /d3/ - ages, judges
