Jenny's story

And here's a nice [very looong]scary story from my English workbook ;p
From the first day Jenny Moore moved into her new house with her young family, she felt that she wasn't really welcome there. Strange things kept happening when she was alone in the house. First, one morning when she was having a shower the water became icy cold. But the most frightening thing happened when she was sitting in the living room, reading the newspaper. The window opened and a huge black cat jumped in. It looked at her with its big green eyes and then ran up the stairs. Jenny spend all day looking for the cat, but she couldn't find it anywhere. When she was having dinner with the family that evening she told John about it. He wasn't worried. "It probably jumped out of the window and went back where it came from", he said. Jenny was just beginning to explain when suddenly the wardrobe door flew open and the black cat jumped out, ran across the bed and out of the window. It look a long time for Jenny to get to sleep that night. She knew that the cat was hiding somewhere. Then, at 3 am, she was sleeping when she felt a cold hand on her neck. She opened her eyes and saw an old woman standing next to her bed. The woman was wearing an old black dress. She was looking at Jenny with her big green eyes. Jenny was very frightened, and she tried to wake up her husband - but he was sleeping deeply. "Get out! Leave me alone!" Jenny shouted, and she threw her pillow at the old woman. Then the old woman disappeared. That was when John woke up. "What's the matter, sweety? Who were you shouting at?" he asked. The next day, they didn't talk about the night before. It was the weekend and they wanted to do some work on their new house. Jenny went down to the cellar to tidy up the old boxes there. When she was looking through the boxes she found an old newspaper from 1943, so she started to read it. She was very surprised when she saw a photo of the old lady. The newspaper story said that her name was Mary, and that she died in a house fire the night before. The adress was the same as the house where Jenny and her family were living in now. And the only survivor of the fire was Mary's pet - a black cat, which died a week later of a broken heart.
oh,finally, I finished it ;d
I admire someone who read it to the end.
