Abysmal ignorance

"Historia magistra vitae est" - this is one of the titles I see from time to time. It tells the truth, but the most annoing thing in it is that it's written in latin. This is not so bad to use this language, but using it without knowledge? What is so dull in polish, so that people don't use it to express their creeds? Answer! I don't understand that! Almost every one who does things like that doesn't know latin (or any other language used similarly) and is an ignorant and doesn't appreciate his or her own beutiful language - why is that happening? Nescio.

So what? It's just that these are well known to everyone dictums. A person may not know how to say something in Polish to make it sound serious enough or whatever. I think it's valuable to know other languages' sentences, even that short. Using them doesn't mean disrespect for own language. You study English and so what? Maybe you'll use it in the future. Latin sentences appear in books very often and it's useful to know them. It makes talk or texts more interesting sounding. A matter of taste :)

It doesn't refer to Latin only. Japanese is also in fashion nowadays. I mean that people think that knowing some sentences or even words in an exotic or dead language is "cool" and boast about it. It's not like that I learn English and I will not use it in future. I will. I also learn Latin - I ant to have it on my matura in two years, I just don't use it to boasting, like: "Hey, do you know how to say 'Hello' in Latin? You don't? I know - it's 'Salve!'". Maybe I exaggerate, but my main drawback is possibility of being annoyed by things like that.

I don't think it's 'cool' though I use it sometimes.
Anyways, I didn't understand it this way before(talking about boasting). Hm... my friend knows words 'I love you' in maaany languages and she sometimes says them when asked. I'm never annoyed by it, although it may be a way of boasting. Well, you and I are probbly just two different types of characters ;) there's nothing wrong with that I think.
