Tale - Part 1 - "Dew before morning"

// So, you were waiting patiently. Here you are - this is what I have been writing that long. I hope you'll like it.

Once upon a time, in an unreal and fantastic Kingdom of Senhar, there was a man - he was the king of the country and his name was Isyus IV. His primary objectives were to make the army stronger and to raise the level of education.
The modernization of the army was very important to him, but the finances weren't big, and he had to satisfy himself only by realising the second goal - so he founded The Academy - first in Senhar's history obligatory public school for young people. It was founded in 243 in the second era so people who were affiliated were born in 227 - the third year of the war between Senhar and Rantes - a neighbour country. The worst birth rate was also noted then, what is obviously a natural thing - but due to that, there were only 15 students at the first year in the Academy. However, it was a good thing, because at the first time, the school had to be sort of tested - Isyus and other competent people wanted to see how something like this looks like and how it works, if at all.
Because of the number of students, king decided to employ only three teachers of different specializations and a principal. There were six subjects and each teacher had two of them. There were:
- Astronomy
- Alchemy
- Restoration magic
- Destruction magic
- Summoning magic
- Physical Education
Finally, the first day came. All of the 15 students were less or more happy, but they were also very punctual; there was no need to wait for anyone. The academy was something like prison or borstal - a wall surrounded it, and no one could go out without permission of the principal. There were three small constructions, in which the lessons were run, two training grounds and two buildings, whose functions were to imitate houses, because they weren't even similar, but living in them was possible and there were no complaints - all of the students came from middle-class families and got used to living in similar conditions. After some days it was sure, who are the best pupils in school at each subject. Vane was good at Astronomy, Faian at Alchemy, Ina at Restoration, Nadai at PE, Rath at Summoning and both Seeatean and Kaera at Destruction - that was very dangerous situation. If any of those two feels worse that the other one, he or she would attack someone, but actually no one thought about it - almost all of the students had prejudice against Rath, because he had moved some years before from Rantes, a neighbour country of Senhar, and these two hated each other.
However, it wasn't all about him. He also came from Asandam - a tribe which had lived in northern Rantes before their doom - a nationalistic group of the Rantesan people called "the Pure Blood" killed almost all of the Asandamans, leaving alive only 4 years old Rath and his mother, because they had escaped according to the tribe's leader's order just before the attack on their village. Somehow they succeeded in passing the border and the Great Wall and finished up in Alotus - a city in northern Senhar. There they found a kind-hearted old man called Aldtai, who took care of them for the first two months - then Rath's mother was found dead assassinated at the back of Aldtai's house. It is not known, who as responsible for that and what was the reason - to finish the Asandamans, or to activate Rath's special ability. Although Rath lost his mother, he wasn't lonely - Aldtai adopted him and treated like his own son, that he hadn't ever had. When he and Rath found out about the royal ordinance commanding people to send their 16 years old children to the Academy, Aldtai warned his stepson, that it is possible, that he would be harassed and told him to ignore such behaviour and just learn what he is good at - Summoning.
The Aldtai's warnings came true. His classmates tormented him every day, but at their leisure time, so that teachers couldn't control it, but even if they had noticed that, they wouldn't have reacted - nationalism toward Rantes was very strong and no one was interested in that Rath came from tribe hated also by the Rantesan. There were only two people that didn't hate him - Vane and fararn Rakarin - the Restoration and Summoning teacher. The other teachers always looked at Vane and Rakarin with surprise, but tolerated them anyway.
After one month the situation calmed down. There still was the antirantesism, but harassing a classmate became boring - it was obvious, that it's impossible to violate the king's law and just get rid of Rath. He felt much better and then there were no more obstacles for everyone to find himself friends, but no one wanted to be a friend of Rath nor Vane. Both of them weren't even surprised - Rath was delighted that he wasn't tormented anymore and it was enough for him at that time, and Vane used to grow up in such unfriendly environment and he always was a type of a hermit after all.
The days were passing, different things were happening - generally well for the people in the Academy. One day, one of the students, Ciann exaggerated, telling fararn Manadar that he must be a numskull if he teaches such a stupid subject as Astronomy, when he tried to ask her some questions at the beginning of the lesson and she didn't know any of the answers, like usual. Fararn decided to punish her with some kind of community service - she had to go outside the school and harvest 10 kilograms of moner - a herb that would be needed on few next Alchemy classes. Ciann told, that everything is more interesting than Astronomy and got down to work. Almost everyone thought that sending someone to bring that amount of such a rare plant is an overstatement - only Vane and Dasthaen advocated it - but it's not a surprise, because these two liked Astronomy and speech like that was sort of insult for them.
Ciann weren't coming back for a long time - it was past two days, and a task like that shouldn't took her more than a dozen of hours. Some pupils were worried about her, and Rath was the one, who worried the most. He didn't know why, perhaps he fell in love with her. The third day passed and she didn't come back, so the teachers sent the best student at Physical Education, Nadai to find her. Nadai did necessary preparations and went westward, where Ciann went too. Some hours went by and he didn't find her, but met a ghost of a member of the Asandam - the Rath's tribe - who told him to leave Rath in peace and to not harass him or he and the others will regret it. Nadai didn't like Rath, so he came up with an idea - he returned to the Academy and told the teachers, that he met Ciann's spirit, which told him, that she was assassinated by Rath's subordinate two days before. Although the people nearly acknowledged Rath, antirantesism still ruled, so they almost unanimously decided to get rid of him immediately. There were only two people that were against that decision - Vane and Rakarin, and Dasthaen was indifferent, as usual, but nobody asked them for an opinion. Rath didn't even try to stand up for himself - he knew, that it won't do anything good - he would be remembered as a traitor, murderer and a liar, so he packed up and left without a farewell. No one knew where he is going, whether he would die or if Nadai's story was true. No one also cared. Life had to be normal since that time. People's behaviours were getting usual, if it's an appropriate word. Rakarin gave up in being for Rath, Dasthaen remained neutral - only Vane tried to make them realize that Rath was innocent. The majority of the students couldn’t stand him, so he was dismissed two weeks later. Vane foreshadowed his revenge, but they laughed at him and were saying: "he can't be serious" - but he was, what they would feel in few years.
To be continued.

// So, this is the end of the first part. Wait for the next ones. And if you have any questions about the tale, characters or the world, in which the story is happening, just ask.
